Project Genesis Chessington World of Adventures 23/01659/FUL (to be continued)

If you want to comment on this destructive development, you probably can't because the consultation has ended. I wonder who was on the list of consultees; certainly not those who showed an interest in the Amazon land application (or we would have been notified). Plans include: Development of a waterpark including demolition works, alterations, extensions and change of use to part of the existing Hotel building, construction of associated structures, landscaping, drainage, access and other incidental works, including provision of a new access road, SuDS pond and altered plant enclosure to serve the approved lodges scheme (Ref: 18/10413/FUL). With mega numbers of trees to be felled in this app. there will be a lot more back of house views like these...... The habitat loss will be offset to a compensation area of woodland in the south with a woodland management plan (cut and paste from last time).

There is a new application to build on 1 ha of open land at Chessington World of Adventures (TQ 172 622) with the  removal of 70 trees, and only 21 days to respond. 'Amazon land', will include all things that wouldn't be expected to be found in the Amazon, such as  a new rollercoaster and children’s rides along with associated buildings, structures, landscaping and incidental works. The environmental work for the above application is called an Appraisal (not an Impact Assessment or Preliminary Ecological Assessment). It was carried out in November 2020, not during the growing season, not mentioned as a limitation of the survey, and is submitted nine months later. It purports to be a Phase 1 habitat survey but it doesn't use the JNCC habitat codes and it doesn't give any references, so that we can see which version of the JNCC document it pertains to.  We are not told how long the consultant spent on site so it is really a desk study with photos. However, it does m...

Sixty Acre Wood Chessington

Image
Sixty Acre wood formed part of the Barwell Court estate up until earlier this year. This majestic ancient woodland, borders Fairoak Lane in Chessington. The initial woodland compartment west of the National Grid Sub-station is known as Jubilee Wood (this should not to be confused with the council owned Nature Reserve, of the same name, which is east of the sub-station).  A National Grid wayleave is present throughout these  woodlands and managed by UK Power. The wayleaves are coppiced on a 3-5 year rotation offering a rich habitat mosaic and are important for viviparous lizards. sweet chestnut coppice Charcoal burner  The woodland  slopes down a steep gradient towards plantation woodland at its western extent (at the Surrey county boundary along the A3). It is predominantely hazel and sweet chestnut coppice, managed in traditional ways.  A woodsman operates near the CWoA overflow car park and cuts hazel faggots and operates a charcoal burner. ...
