Major greenbelt application from Chessington World of Adventures 24/03150

Yet another major application in the Greenbelt from Chessington World of Adventures see 24/03150 is under consideration.

'Demolition and removal of rides, buildings and structures. One existing ride to be retained and rethemed and repositioned. Erection of new buildings and structures to provide a new themed land including a part indoor and outdoor rollercoaster, indoor children's ride, themed play areas along with associated buildings for various purposes, structures, landscaping, infrastructure above and below ground and other works'.

The Trading Rules of the Biodiversity Net Gain have not been met. The measure to 'offset' net gain appears to be the modus operandi of CWoA, increasing the degradation & loss of habitat (and therefore species) with each application. Are you aware if previously agreed offsite net gains have been implemented for the Amazon Land 21/02435? has any of the small woodland been managed?

The Bat Survey was not undertaken according to accepted Guidelines. The Guidelines are referred to only once, at that was in relation to timing only. The equipment used was basic and would not have shown the emergence of solitary Brown Long-eared bats. I have collected this species from CWoA in the past from rides, so we know it is present and using all manner of buildings.

CWoA- always felling trees, 70 felled in the Amazon Land application, and 100's in the Go Ape application. This is unacceptable anywhere in this day and age. They are a wealthy corporation and should be setting an environmental standard, not reducing it to almost zero.

Tree loss will also impact of the Public Rights of Way, which are not shown in the red line plan. This will be impact as always on the PROW and the enjoyment of walkers on the Chessington Countryside Path. the trees are needed for screening and for reduction of flooding, which occurs at the end of the path.

The site is on the southern boundary of the themed area of CWoA where there is a lot of high quality surrounding habitat and active badger setts. Cobwebs over the chamber of a badger sett, can be made in a day. There should be Phase 2 badger surveys and the CWoA should aim for a higher environmental standard. see also Amazonland
